For materials with high fracture toughness, the crack must have a sufficiently high stress intensity factor at the crack tip, i.e., a large crack length. When the stress is constant, h14 die steel processing already has fatigue cracks. If the fracture toughness of the mold material is high, the crack must extend further before unstable extension occurs.
That is, the thermal fatigue resistance determines the life before the fatigue crack sprouts; and the crack extension rate and fracture toughness determine the subcritical extension life after the crack sprouts. Thermally processed molds need to have high thermal fatigue resistance, low crack expansion rate and high fracture toughness to obtain long life.
The thermal fatigue resistance index can be measured by the number of thermal cycles in which a hot work die steel sprouts thermal fatigue cracks, the number of fatigue cracks, and the average depth or length after a given thermal cycle.
Bite force.
Occlusion resistance is actually the resistance during cold welding. This characteristic is very important for mold materials. Typically, under dry friction conditions, a tool steel sample is subjected to constant velocity double friction with the material (e.g. austenitic steel), with the load gradually increasing at a certain rate. At this point the torque also increases accordingly. This load is called the "bite critical load" and the higher the value, the greater the bite strength.
