Performance requirements.
Hardness Hardness is the main technical specification for mould steels. If the mould wants to keep its shape and size unchanged under high stress, it must have a sufficiently high hardness. Cold work of the mold steel at room temperature general hardness in HRC60 or so, and hot work mold steel according to its working conditions generally required in HRC40 ~ HRC40 ~ 55 between. In a certain range of hardness, the same steel hardness and deformation resistance is proportional; but different composition, different organization of the steel, hardness value is the same, its resistance to plastic deformation may have obvious differences.
When working at high temperatures, hot work moulds must maintain their structural and performance stability in order to maintain a sufficiently high hardness, which is known as red hardness. In general, carbon and low-alloy tool steels can be maintained in the temperature range of 180 to 250°C, while chromium-molybdenum hot work tool steels can be maintained in the temperature range of 550 to 600°C. The red hardness of the steel depends mainly on its chemical composition and heat treatment process.
